It was a real blast, lots of really cool people. I tried to squeeze every last drop of super-productive mega-con Action-Jackson juice out of every single minute I could until the last shuttle back to the hotel on Sunday, and it totally wore me out. I was like, sick for a week and a half after that, the con flu rendered my healthy blood cells useless with comic nerd hugs and howdees and germs. I’ll have to remember to fight those off with preemptive karate the next time I go.

I spent most of my time running around, handing out 8-page Nash previews to folks. Too much else went on there to talk about, really, but I can make a list! It’ll keep me from using the same descriptive adjectives over and over again, like fun, really cool, awesome, sweet, super and all that, anyway. Also, neat, nifty, and spiff qualify for most of these as well. Rad.

Things I liked about SDCC:
-The weather. GORGEOUS. (We flew in a day early so we’d be able to appreciate it.) It made hanging out by the pool seem a little like heaven.
-Meeting up/catching up with talents like Sanford Greene, Chris Moreno, Stuart Sayger, Mike Mignola, Ethan Nicolle, Dave Crosland, John Soares and Justin Spurlock of Westhavenbrook Productions, Rafael Navarro, Robbie Rodriguez, and Shaun Finney of Telltale Games.
-Life-size transformers. And by life-size I mean bigger than a house. Whoaaa.
-Doug TenNapel’s Manga Studio demo. He wrote, sketched, and inked a whole page in an hour while showing us how to use the program. How sweet is that? Uhm, very sweet.
-Getting to eat burritos and then sitting out by the Seaport and watch fireworks on Saturday night with some awesome folks who I had been waiting to meet.
-Hanging out with Westhavenbrook Productions periodically throughout the con. A bunch of really swell people who know how to have a good laugh. Also meeting the sweet-hearted and goofy Doug Jones, of Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy fame.
-Darth Maul.
-Tr!ckster! What a great concept. It’s a side project that focuses on creator-owned comics, located at the little wine bar across the street. While the gift shop and panels are totally worth going to, the after-parties are totally worth sticking around for. I heard there were figure drawing nights, but I only went to the Kurosawa night, which included a live dj and a film tribute art gallery.
-Newly discovering talents like Jose Cabrero, Jim Lujan, David Colman, John Van Fleet, Brett Bean, Eric Canete, gosh, and so much more, I can’t even remember who else.
-The guys at Red 5 Comics and Avatar Press were really cool. I got a portfolio look-over by Charlie Chu at Oni, which he didn’t have to do but took the time to do anyway – totally cool of him and cool hearing what he had to say.
-This moment – grabbing a Starbucks latte and donut, sitting against the convention wall in the smoking section, breathing it in secondhand, while drinking my coffee. I was sitting in the warm sunlight before heading to a panel over at Trickster, while texting people back home. It was a great moment when the realization of making it out to where I was washed over me in a huge wave of appreciation.

Things I could punch at SDCC:
-One hundred million Harley Quinns. Or at least let me impound their dangerously gigantic mallets.
-My ADD. (Though once in a while you’ve gotta let it have a good run around, huh? Guess there’s no better place!)
-That one girl who wasn’t wearing any pants.
-Battle Bears. I really wanted to tackle one. Since they have battle in their name it’s allowed, right? It should be… they’re asking for it.

Alright so that’s enough about SDCC. What I really wanted to get to was let y’all know what I was up to with what I’ve been up to. Knaw’mean?

I know Nash has been slow. I’ve been slow. I also have been helping some friends out with in-betweener bits of their projects. Oh! And commissions! I just recently did a pin-up of BatWarthog from Axe Cop for Ethan Nicolle, for the third Axe Cop trade. I’m doing some character concept art for Atomic Robo and the Flying She-Devils, which will be out after Atomic Robo and the Ghost of Station X. (The first issue of Atomic Robo and the GOSX is out now and it’s as good as ever. You will love it. You should buy it.) I’ll be doing a pinup soon for Jason Horn’s Ninjasaur trade, as well.

So Nash has been slowing a bit, especially around SDCC and all that. There was a lot of prepping to do. But my love for little Brudder is NOT fading!! I promise! I am sooo excited for these next pages coming out you have no idea. But for right now, my friends Brockton McKinney and Bo Fader of Super Tough Films and Lost Story Studios handed me, as well as several other artists including Larkin Ford and Chris Moreno, scripts for horror stories to be collected in a single issue compilation called Death Curse. Mine is about 8 pages long and includes a short story about a group of boy scouts. It’s going to be a lot of fun, but will take up the rest of September and just a little bit of October.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 75px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xadlJRnz7ww/TnL1_SY6y9I/AAAAAAAAAO0/eLhv3YxmMt8/s320/dcpagetwobit.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5652850949920312274" />

I’m posting some sneaky peeks for y’all to see, but I ain’t gonna show you anymore ‘til the book comes out. Nash will return in October, I promise.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 280px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yeMB3tj0XbQ/TnL1jajURZI/AAAAAAAAAOk/aQRtlODvCx0/s320/8year.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5652850471075071378" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 250px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mpTJBtVund0/TnL1x7YNqaI/AAAAAAAAAOs/gDjrcOvFFi8/s320/latchcursejim.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5652850720405039522" />

A Couple Months Worth of Dust...

Oh man oh man... I totally forgot I had a blog. Haha! My friends at sketch group reminded me today. I guess I better get to it. I don't even want to look at the date from the last time I posted.

My webcomic is up and running, (has been for a while...) it's called Brother Nash. You can check it out HERE, on Webcomicsnation.com
Here's the latest picture I've done... a picture of Sufjan Stevens from his video "For the Widows..." I wanted to include the linework as well so y'all can compare it with the colored version.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 246px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_eSZmoQtsc90/TUJger7QmHI/AAAAAAAAAH8/IL5lX9LeXqY/s400/sufjanlinetoo.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5567118169686972530" />

I will do my best to keep this thing going, but I have to warn you... I'm not much of a blogger. To keep up with my most recent artwork, you can follow me on DeviantArt. And/or you can also follow me on Twitter.

So that's that for now. I just wanted to pop in and undeadify this thing. I'll come back with news of comic conventions (I intend to do many this year!!) and other top-secret not-secret journal-type comics-related stuff that y'all can read all sly-like.

New - Brother Nashoba

Okay, so I'm kinda excited. I am currently working on a new idea for a single-issue comic. This means I will be momentarily setting Kindle aside and working on this story. It's going to be called "Brother Nash" or something. I think. I am going to write out the entire script before I start drawing, which is very different for me. (I'm sure I am going to be very itchy to draw, so I don't doubt I'll have lots of sketches for this idea. No pages though - not until I finish.)

In my excitement, I'll go ahead and post a sketch of the main character and talk about it:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 393px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_eSZmoQtsc90/THbDnjdnf8I/AAAAAAAAAHI/8BJCRJ4tVlQ/s400/nn.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5509806278436159426" />

All the reader knows is that his name is Nash - but it comes from the Choctaw Indian name Nashoba, which means "wolf". Nashoba was born in Mississippi, is of Choctaw Indian descent, and is a truckdriver that travels all around the lower West side of the United States. During jobs he also chooses to help transfer Mexican immigrants and hitchikers further away from the border. The story is going to take place during one of those instances.

Comicspace

YES, there is ANOTHER link to the BridgitAllDigital webisphere, but I'm actually super stoked about it!!!

It's the super vital BridgitAllDigital ComicSpace. I left some people out. And I am going to straight up fix that right NOW with WORDS because it was super lame of me to forget!! Blame it on a slight, temporary case of after-work exhaustion!

Every year for the past three years I've stopped by Stuart Sayger's table. He is an amazing mixed media comic booker who always has black, ink-stained fingers when I go visit his table. He's taught me a lot about developing style and loosening up and following the ambition to get OUT and DO comics. It's always a pleasure to get a chance to talk with him, Stuart is a super positive and encouraging person. I also met two rad friends of Stuart's, Chris Moreno and Lauren Perry. Chris is an illustrator as well, and also likes werewolves so we had a pretty hilarious conversation, which cheered me up after Templesmith's public werewolf diss. Lauren was an editor and project manager and we've already started talking about hitting up next San Diego con together! Superstoked!

But at my OWN table, which I forgot to mention ALTOGETHER - see Herc, I even forgot my own HOMIES! yikes! - we had a lot of fun. Ryan was out and about wandering around and getting his serious Adam Hughes fix, and I was STUCK between Dave Wiley and Brian Barker, who were pretty much hilarious the whole time. And thanks to Gray who brought us COOKIES on Saturday! How cool is that?! I met Gray on Friday and we had some nice conversations, and then on Saturday he brought us like, a couple batches of homemade sweetness. Which was also our LUNCH that day. John Hairston was also there, my big brudder!, and every now and then to stretch my legs I'd wander across the convention floor to go watch him paint big stuff.

There are still tons of people to mention, but I don't need to drag this thing out any more. Thanks to those of you - you really know who you are, if you are reading this. 'Twas good times!!

((I <3 PANTS!))
((Sketch Charlotte blog coming next!!))

Preparation for Heroes Con 2010

Edit: Here's my convention banner, finished:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 224px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_eSZmoQtsc90/TAJlhueG6dI/AAAAAAAAAGg/8LKpWW7NGtU/s400/kindleflat.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477051726920346066" />

Carnies Galore!

Last night was the Culture Initiative show at the Neighborhood Theatre. It was a blast! There was a ton of really sweet art. It ranged from anything like graphic design, screenprints, a lot of urban influenced art, collaboration pieces with 3-D elements, a whole section of skate decks, to painted illustrations. I've never seen the Theatre divided up into so many sections, and there was so much to look at! The downstairs was devoted to the "Freaky Animal Sideshow" section, where one of my pieces was. Sculptor Jen Clay contributed gigantic monster and insect sculptures to this section as well! There was a photobooth set up to look like a crazy carnie's lounge area, so people took hung out and took pictures amidst the wild, colorful setup. The auction pieces were hung up next door at the bar Sanctuary, where there was a silent auction going on all night.

I managed to catch The Restoration, a bit of The Lion's Rampant, and Public Radio. Public Radio was awesome - like always! - so if you haven't gotten a chance to hear them or see them live, you should do so. I was incredibly blown away by The Restoration, though. These folks are brilliant. I'm no music critic, so there's really no way for me to describe such moving sound as adequately as some people, but the whole vision to their band is so wonderful. They are incredible storytellers, and describe themselves as many things, one of my favorites being Faulknerian chamber-pop. Their new album "Constance" has an over 40-page insert based on some family out of the late 1800's, and their album is telling the story about the character's lives. The lyrics are so gripping, and Daniel Machado's beautiful vocals are constantly fighting a battle alongside the powerful array of instruments, which oftentimes outnumber the actual amount of people onstage.

Below are links to a live video and the band's Myspace page. Please check them out.

The Restoration - Drowning Mr. & Mrs. Palmer - Live Studio Performance

The Restoration.

Quiet!

For all of you who have been waiting patiently to get your copy of Kindle, thank you! The time has come for me to print the second run of the first issue, so they will be ready on Monday. The issues are still $5, and they will be available both through Heroes Aren't Hard to Find and through me if you'd like me to personally give it to you or send it to you through the mail. My contact info should be lingering around this site somewhere, so just shoot me an email and let me know.

As for what's coming next in the Kindle comic, I'm pretty excited. Post!

Welcome, my most honorable friendsies, to the Bridgit All Digital blog! It's named after my website, and thus it might yet be the blog that takes the place of my webspace once I'm rid of it come summertime. Who knows. This blog is going to be a great way for me to show progress with my art as well as show you guys what and who is influencing me right now. I just created a fresh new DeviantArt page, too, so once that is officially up and running I'll post it in the links section. Over on the side.

So anyway... for starters, I think I'll just go ahead and get the ball rolling by screamin' all the news news news!

Tonight I'm printing a second run of my comic, Kindle. Now that I have the blog and will be working on the second issue soon, I'll try to keep all of you updated on the story development by posting tasty little morsels from my HB's!

Currently I have some artwork hanging up in the Baku gallery inside of Fu's Tattoo in NoDa. It will be there until the first weekend of May, and it includes original artwork as well as prints of old band posters that I've done. Tomorrow I'll be putting up my Senior Exhibit show titled "Growing Pains" in the Rowe gallery at school, and I'm sharing the space with a lot of other sweet artists. Dave Wiley is going to be showing pages from his graphic novel about retail. It's some wry, dry, hilarious stuff. I'm also pretty stoked about Jennifer Clay's sculptures... I'm not going to ruin anything but I just want to say that I wish the MONSTERS she makes were REAL. (She has a few that are gigantic and furry, and you can walk under them! I felt like I was in Where the Wild Things Are!)

Whoa! And I just got news today of a sweet collaboration I might be doing with the guys from Culture Initiative on the poster for their next event, Extraordinary & the Something Sideshow. Culture Initiative is a group that is striving to make the art community in Charlotte more accessible. It's run by Joel Andrew Tracy and Arthur Brouthers... if you have a Facebook the link is HERE. Check it out, you for real won't be disappointed. The events are always a blast!

Well, that's it I guess for the first post. It's getting pretty late and my eyes are buggin'. Thanks for reading!

Peace out!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://bridgitalldigital.blogspot.com/2010/03/welcome-my-most-honorable-friendsies-to.html' title='First!
